Nurturing Peace and Insight

An embodiment of the Sakya masters’ wisdom, our future London centre will be a welcoming space for everyone, regardless of beliefs and backgrounds, to come together and explore the nature of our minds.

The current leader of the Sakya tradition is His Holiness Gyana Vajra Rinpoche, the 43rd Sakya Trizin, a figure steeped in profound spiritual heritage. From the moment of his birth, Rinpoche has been immersed in a rich tapestry of blessings, empowerments, initiations, and teachings bestowed by some of the most esteemed high lamas and scholars of our time.

His Holiness Ratna Vajra Rinpoche, the 42nd Sakya Trizin, served from 2017 to 2022 and is celebrated as one of the most highly qualified lineage masters, adept in both the esoteric and exoteric aspects of Buddhist philosophy and meditation. His teachings have significantly shaped the understanding of these traditions.

His Holiness Kyabgon Gongma Trichen Rinpoche, the 41st Sakya Trizin, guided the tradition with wisdom and insight. Having received teachings from all four major schools of Tibetan Buddhism, he possesses the unique ability to confer empowerments across all traditions, enriching the spiritual lives of practitioners and high lamas alike. The lineage is a vibrant bridge connecting diverse Buddhist teachings.

The Sakya Centre in Dehradun was founded in 1964 by His Holiness the 41st Sakya Trizin, the Sakya Centre is the main seat of the Sakya Order of Tibetan Buddhism.

Khenpo Lekshey’s journey into the heart of the Sakya tradition began at the tender age of eight when he entered the Sakya Monastery, Dehradun. In 1972, he embarked on an intense academic pursuit at Sakya College, dedicating eleven years to mastering Buddhist philosophy, logic, and more. Under the guidance of esteemed masters such as His Eminence Luding Khenchen Rinpoche, His Eminence Chogyed Trichen, and the venerable Khenchen Yonten Sangpo (Khenpo Appey), he absorbed profound teachings.

Throughout his years of study, Khenpo Lekshey received all the Sakya empowerments, deepening his connection to the teachings. From 1984 to 1989, His Holiness the 41st bestowed upon him the honor of serving as a resident Lama at the Sakya Centre in Singapore. In 1989, he was recalled to India, where he took on the pivotal roles of General Secretary and Director for the monastery in Dehradun, serving with dedication until 2010.

Recognizing his commitment and insight, His Holiness Sakya Trichen entrusted Khenpo Lekshey with a profound responsibility: to travel the globe and share the essential Dharma teachings; to guide individuals toward understanding the nature of suffering and to provide the tools for overcoming it, leading to inner peace and enlightenment.
